Get involved as a Governor on Our Board

St John and St Anne’s Almshouse charity is looking to recruit new governors who have the time and skills needed to help ensure the Charity continues to meet the future needs of our current and future residents. We are the oldest charity in Rutland and also a registered social landlord for older people who have a financial, housing or social need.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who will care about our residents and believe that they should have access to the best quality housing and services that our housing charity can supply. As a Governor, you can help improve the lives of others and make a real difference.

The board of Governors is a group of dedicated and committed local people who meet regularly either at full or subcommittee meetings and have a strong long term strategic goals. The role of the board is to instigate the future vision and ensure strong governance of the charity. The CEO and staff team carry out the operational work of the charity and support Governors and visa versa.

Ideally, we are seeking computer literate applicants who care about making a difference, and have wide ranging skills and particularly experience in the following areas:

  • Social Welfare
  • Building maintenance and construction
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Financial Background
  • Compliance Background
  • We actively encourage applicants from a diverse background to apply.

Time commitment: There are four morning board meetings per year. There are further meetings throughout the year in sub committees that Governors may attend one committee as well as the main board meeting.

Remuneration: This is a voluntary position and therefore does not pay a salary. Although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

We have a governing body of 15 Governors who are all local people who volunteer their time, expertise in this wonderful historic charity and who welcome and offer support to new Governors to the Board.

Ways to get involved as a Resident

At St John and St Annes Charity, our residents are at the heart of everything we do. It is very important to us that we talk to you and hear your feedback on a regular basis as your valuable feedback helps us to improve our services for the benefit of everyone.

We have a variety of resident involvement activities that you can take part in.

We're thankful to have many involved residents already, but we're always happy to welcome more. If you'd like to get involved, there are opportunities available.

We ask for your feedback through the following ways:

  • Our Resident Advisor attends each site weekly and is available to meet with individual residents or groups to discuss any areas or issues with residents and to offer any support or advice.
  • Our CEO holds monthly coffee morning meetings with residents on all sites, to hear your feedback, update residents on any news or changes coming up and answers any questions or queries.
  • Suggestion boxes and cards are on all housing sites for residents to let us know any suggestions and feedback.
  • Governors from the board meet with residents every quarter to hear feedback and update on plans for the charity.
  • Residents receive regular newsletters with a range of information updates and news.
  • Annually, an external company conducts a residents satisfaction survey with our residents and the results and findings are sent to all residents and shared on our website.
  • We have a residents consultation panel, which has three resident representatives from each location that meets quarterly to share feedback and look any issues or actions needed.
  • Residents can call our office, email us or write to us to share feedback and we are always happy to meet with residents to discuss their feedback in more detail.
  • Residents will manage their own social committee and arrange some events and activities for other residents.
